Sandra (Sass)
Lassley is a busy woman. She runs Fe Fi Faux Studios, a decorative
faux painting firm based in Omaha, NE along with her husband and partner
Jeff, and their daughter Sasha Lassley-Hardie. They recently brought
home two top awards for projects entered at the Fauxcademy of Decorative
Finishing Awards, held at Caesar’s Palace in Las
Vegas June 25-29 2006.
Founded
in 2001, the Fauxcademy is a national competition open to all decorative
muralists and artists working in any medium. Projects entered are judged
by internationally acclaimed artists and industry leaders.
This year, the Fauxcademy
awarded Fe Fi Faux Studios, Inc. with the first place trophy for best
kitchen/ hearth room. This kitchen was given old world charm with the
use of plasters applied to the wall over sections of anaglyptic papers
that were hand colored and then torn. The buried papers suggest a broken
away, worn with time effect. Complimenting the kitchen walls are cabinets
painted metallic bronze with a black pitted stone effect highlighted
with metallic gold edging.
Sandra and her crew were also
awarded the first place trophy for best home theater/ recreational
area. This Omaha project for Bruce and Deb Grewcock incorporated a
saddle leather stucco finish was created for a 5,000 square foot lower
level. The piece de resisitance was a 14 x 18 four sided bar that became
the focus of the room. A
copper-leafed ceiling and waving copper band was installed and
riveted with upholstery nailheads to emulate the other copper accents
in the room.
Her company was also awarded
3 nomination certificates for Best Sample Creation, Best Architectural
Feature, and Most Creative Use of a faux finish for a pair of old boots
that she resurrected with the application of faux reptile skin.
These
awards are testimony to the extensive training Sass has received. In
the past 17 years she has traveled across the U.S. and Europe attending
some of the finest art institutes in the country, studying and photographing
old world walls. She is constantly on the look out for cutting edge
products, tools, and technology. She and her crew are proud to
have completed work from coast to coast and have worked in hundreds
of Omaha’s finest homes.
Their
latest exciting project will be working on “Inspirations
and Innovations Legendary Tour of Homes” a show house extravaganza
showcasing her work. She is one of the lead members on the decorative
finish design team and she will be personally creating unique and
inspiring finishes for the Omaha Market. The event benefits the Child
Saving Institute.
